My first shoot since the March lockdown in Ireland was earlier this week. It was so nice to get back to a creative collaboration, and with such a talented person as Fanny Müller. This was my second time shooting with Fanny and I was a bit nervous about what to shoot to match the work from our first excellent shoot together back in January.
The game plan was an hour on location shooting on the cliffs followed by time in Studio with my new Oliphant backdrop… that was about the level of detail I had come up with. As it turned out the weather was warm and overcast and the tide was fully out, so we decided to take our time and explore a few cliff locations and just do a short studio shoot after lunch.
I introduced Fanny to my favourite cliff backdrop and I think it was love at first sight. It was like giving a child a climbing frame and watching them crawl and explore with a constant smile of her face.
The dark tones of this cliff face screamed out for a colourful dress and Fanny had brought a perfect red dress for the occasion.
When we exhausted this location we moved on to another favourite cave and as the sun was breaking through the clouds we experimented with some more poses. Unfortunately I forgot my tripod for this location as the light was quite low in the ideal spot in the cave, so many of the images suffered on that account. Instead I pushed myself to try more harsh light at the cave entrance and Fanny produced some stunning poses.
Three hours flew by and we headed back to studio for lunch and a final shoot. My Oliphant backdrop has been sitting idle for a few months and we hastily put together a setup to try out. I was super impressed with the tones and overall feel this Oliphant backdrop adds to the work. Even during editing there is minimal work, and it lends itself to subtle colour toning which I know I will experiment with more in the future.
