A day with Ayla Rose
I’ve been waiting a while to have my first shoot with Ayla Rose. It was worth the wait! Having access to both studio and nearby locations is very useful in unpredictable Irish weather. My plans had to be flipped from morning to afternoon to make sure we got time in studio and time on location.

Turbary Woods, Owl and Bird Sanctuary
We came across the Turbary Sanctuary today and paid a visit between rain showers to see if we could meet the resident birds of prey. We just missed the flying display but got the spend some time with the birds and their handlers and even one new owner of a young African Spotted Eagle Owl.

Embracing the shadows…
Whether working with natural light or studio lights I’ve always been weary of the dark side! Perhaps it’s the association with camera club competitions and the risk of a judge penalizing blocked shadows that led me to be extra careful about filling in shadows somewhat and never clipping the blacks (or highlights for that matter!).

Neuschwanstein
In 1986 and 1987 I was fortunate enough as a student to work and live in Kaufbeuren in the Allgäu region of Bavaria. It was not until four years ago I made a brief return visit, visiting the family I lived with, and heading to my favourite spot in Füssen and the famous Neuschwanstein castle.
