    My first remote shoot

In these strange times I feel lucky to have the headspace to want to exercise my creative side. So when Mischkah asked me if I’d like to try a remote shoot, I gladly said yes. I’d been thinking about these for a while and wondering just how well they would work for me. I enjoy

    A Covid-19 Shoot

My first shoot since the March lockdown in Ireland was earlier this week. It was so nice to get back to a creative collaboration, and with such a talented person as Fanny Müller. This was my second time shooting with Fanny and I was a bit nervous about what to shoot to match the work

    Oliphant self portrait

I gave myself a little escapism during lockdown this week, when my new hand painted custom Oliphant arrived yesterday. I should have known once I opened it to look I would be compelled to take it for a test drive. So given the circumstances a self portrait session was required.

Malahide Camera Club visit the studio…

Not much planning went into this shoot, I was toying with the idea of inviting members of my new club to the studio to see what it would be like to work with a group of photographers in my studio rather than my standard MO of lone photographer. Time to give something back perhaps… Also

    A day with Ayla Rose

I’ve been waiting a while to have my first shoot with Ayla Rose. It was worth the wait! Having access to both studio and nearby locations is very useful in unpredictable Irish weather. My plans had to be flipped from morning to afternoon to make sure we got time in studio and time on location.

Turbary Woods, Owl and Bird Sanctuary

We came across the Turbary Sanctuary today and paid a visit between rain showers to see if we could meet the resident birds of prey. We just missed the flying display but got the spend some time with the birds and their handlers and even one new owner of a young African Spotted Eagle Owl.

    Embracing the shadows…

Whether working with natural light or studio lights I’ve always been weary of the dark side! Perhaps it’s the association with camera club competitions and the risk of a judge penalizing blocked shadows that led me to be extra careful about filling in shadows somewhat and never clipping the blacks (or highlights for that matter!).

  • Neuschwanstein

    Neuschwanstein

In 1986 and 1987 I was fortunate enough as a student to work and live in Kaufbeuren in the Allgäu region of Bavaria.  It was not until four years ago I made a brief return visit, visiting the family I lived with, and heading to my favourite spot in Füssen and the famous Neuschwanstein castle.
